December's Full Moon

This year's  December full moon, known as the Cold Moon, will rise on December 15 and is the final  full moon of 2024. 

In the U.S. the names for many of the full moons come from the native american tribes and the Cold Moon was so named by the tribes of the north as the time when the weather became cold and frigid. 

In some areas of Europe the ancient people called this full moon the moon before Yule a winter festival that celebrated the return of longer days and welcoming the warmth of the sun.
