February 2nd is Candlemas Day

Candlemas also known as the festival of light is a christian holiday celebrated on February 2nd. Halfway through the winter season, it was a day that people took their candles to the church to be blessed so as to ward off evil and death and assure prosperity for their families through the rest of the winter. The word itself derives from the latin word, candela meaning candle.
